Summary/Abstract: The Constitution of Bosnia and Herzegovina sets out the principles that enable the acquisition and regulation of the conditions of citizenship of Bosnia and Herzegovina, and accordingly, Article 1, item 7 establishes the principle that there will be a citizenship of Bosnia and Herzegovina regulated by the Parliamentary Assembly and the citizenship of each entity, entity. Article III The Constitution of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina prescribes that in the exclusive jurisdiction of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, the tasks of citizenship of the Federation are. Thus, the legal basis for acquiring citizenship of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina is contained in the Law on Citizenship of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina (“Official Gazette of the Federation BiH”, No. 43/01, 22/09, 61/09 and 65/11). If the parents of a child born on the territory of the Federation have no citizenship or are of unknown nationality and the child is applying for enrollment in the register of births, the application for citizenship is submitted to the registry office at the place of birth of the child, and if found in the territory of the Federation, the application for registration is submitted to the registry office at the place where the child was found. For children born abroad, the application is submitted to the place where the last joint residence of the child’s parents in the Federation is located, if the situation is that they do not have a common place of residence then in the place where the last residence of one of the parents was located. If the last dwelling can not be reliably established or the last place of residence was absent in the Federation, then the place of birth of one of the parents of a child born in the Federation is decided. For children born abroad whose parents were born on the territory of the Republic of Srpska and who have the citizenship of BiH and the FBiH and do not have a place of residence on the territory of the Federation, the request shall be submitted to the competent registrar at the place of registration of the parents in the register of citizens in the Federation.
