PROTECTION OF MILITARY AND STATE SECRETS IN GLAVLIT’S ACTIVITIES IN 1944

Summary/Abstract: The article analyzes the problem of protecting military and state secrets in 1944 during the liberation of the occupied territories ofthe USSR and the European countries. The purpose and tasks of the article are the identification and description of the structure andcontents of the classified information; the analysis of the activities held by the state, party bodies and the Main Directorate for Literaryand Publishing Affairs (Glavlit) for the protection of state secrets during that period. In the course of the study, organizationalmeasures and fields of information security activity and their specifics are characterized. The conclusions drawn in the article confirmthe facts of carrying out a certain censorship policy on the protection of state secrets in general by the state (represented by Glavlit)in interrelation with the course of fighting and political events, as well as their influence on the structure and contents of the classifiedinformation. The amount of the state and military information prevented from disclosure points to the necessity of censorship carriedout by the state and Glavlit.
