Summary/Abstract: The article analyzes American philosophy of pragmatism. Pragmatism is applied as a method to solve the tension between theism and atheism regarding the Absolute Truth. The author considers whether pragmatism can overcome the thesis of Juozas Girnius that theism and atheism are irreconcilable. The author refers to his previous article where he analyzed Antanas Maceina’s existential complaint in his book Jobo drama [The Drama of Job] and raises the question whether existential complaint is indeed of religious kind, whether complaint is directed at transcendence and really reaches it. The article ends with the emphasis on individual experience of faith, which, quoting Richard Rorty as theAmerican neo-pragmatist, not necessarily is connected with God, but could be connected with romanticized love, literature, and also with the sacraments and God.
