Summary/Abstract: This article is based on the opinion poll data – answers to questions: „What does language means for me?“, „What does nation means for me?“, „What does state means for me?“ The analysis of data was performed using the method elaborated by Lublin ethnolinguistic school. It was settled that young people assume that language is important personal identity feature indicating nationality and used for communicational and cognitional purposes; they associate nation with home or family and state with homeland, fatherland, environment, place where they grew up in which same language is used and habitants share the same culture. Analysis of descriptors, phrases and aspects of the answers manifested that language, nation and state are so closely related in the young people consciousness that they merge together. Language is treated as the nation’s and state’s distinguishing feature; nation – as the community of people living in the same state and using the same language; state – as nation’s territory.
