Stylistic exercises with texts of the internet

Summary/Abstract: Online communication is an integral part of the everyday life of the digital generation. These are common linguistic features, deviations from standard grammar, abbreviations, foreign (mainly English) linguistic elements, characteristics of spoken language, emoticons and special sentence patterns of chats and message board posts. All of them can function as a stylistic device or genre characteristics in texts written and published in the digital sphere. This study recommends stylistic exercises – bearing in mind the requirements of mother tongue education in the 5th to 9th grades of Hungarian language elementary schools in Slovakia – which are dedicated to improve digital competences and communication skills.
