Summary/Abstract: The science of political ideology of Byzantium occupies one of the most important places among the problems currently prevailing in Byzantine studies. If we want to properly interpret Manuel’s reign, it is not enough just to know the territorial scope and ethnic composition of Byzantium in the 14th and 15th centuries, but it is also necessary to analyze the imperial ideology. The best way to do this is to study the texts written by Manuel. In the works of the Emperor we can find letters to various friends, orations, dialogues, instructions, treatises on various topics related to state governance, the value of marriage, love for the homeland etc. All this written inheritance left by Manuel shows his exceptional erudition, patience, talent, education, and passion for the rhetoric he had and gives a new perspective of the problems of Byzantium in the 15th century.
