Summary/Abstract: The article examines the letters of the late 19th century scholar, naturalist, positivist, and Professor of Jagiellonian University, Edward Janczewski, to his fiancée. The analysis demonstrates that these letters are literary creations of the author, performative of the conventions of sentimental novel along with its characteristic style.
