Summary/Abstract: The text presents the early cult of St. Ludmila and the author’s disagreement with the opinion that the cult did not exist until the mid-12th century. While collecting arguments in favour of its presence in the time in question, the author devoted special attention to two sources, traditionally interpreted as evidence of the Prague bishops’ aversion to the cult of St. Ludmila or even active opposition to it. However, when read anew, the sources offer a different interpretation, indicating rather that the Prague bishops indeed considered Ludmila a saint. These arguments as well as the knowledge provided by archaeology suggest that the cult was officially recognized as early as in the 10th century. It continued, uninterrupted, although it had a rather limited scope (especially until the mid-12th century).
