Summary/Abstract: Museology at the Mikołaj Kopernik (Nicolaus Copernicus) University in Toruń is a field of university studies of a long-standing tradition; it deals with the history of arts and historical artefacts (monuments); it is not the general museology including the multitude – thematic, typological and organisational – of the present-day museology, at least it is such to a certain degree. The influence of the tradition is clearly visible, strongly felt in the milieu of museum workers / specialists, and in the legacy of the common history of the Faculty of Fine Arts, not only of the Toruń University but of the Vilnius University as well, the symptom of which is a wide profile of classes of the history of arts. As a result, the classes were transformed into artistic museology, monuments preservation and artistic craft. The share of museological subjects was increasing, and so was its quality, both of general museology and its sub-branches, from the point of view of the thematic requirements, through expanding the museological component in the whole curriculum of the studies, and the dynamic development of the present-day museums.
