Summary/Abstract: In the first decade of the 21st century climate change became one of the major issuees in international relations. While climate protection and the reduction of carbon dioxide emissions have long been recognized as major challenges confronting humanity, their rank soared as they became one of the chief subjects discussed by the leaders of the world’s most important states. In this regard, the year 2005 appears to have marked a breakthrough, as the UK, which then held the G8 presidency, put cooperation on the prevention of climate change (alongside aid to Africa) on the agenda of the G8 Gleneagles summit.
