Summary/Abstract: This article analyses a series of pendants made of burnt clay being a special category of artefacts from the tell-settlement of Vităneşti. Starting with the burnt clay pendants, found within both Gumelniţa and Cucuteni cultures, other pendants made of different materials, including bone or metals (gold, silver, copper), are also discussed. The pendants made of clay may represent cheap imitations of those made of metals, which supports the existence of a hierarchical society. Discovered in settlements, necropolises, and sometimes associated with other artefacts in deposits, these pendants suggest the existence of complex relations and behaviours in Eneolithic society. To date there has been little research on correlations of this kind between different artefacts.
