Summary/Abstract: Introduction: Healthcare-acquired infections continues to rise at an alarming rate throughout the world. The literature indicates that health-care associated infection rates vary between high-income countries and low/middle income countries. An overview of the incidence and prevalence of these infections in the United States, Europe, and other regions is provided. Core: The presenter identifies factors that contribute to patient risk of infection in hospitals. The impact of hospital-acquired infections on patient safety, outcomes, and healthy recovery to productive lifestyle are discussed. Possible solutions to the problem are explained. This presentation displays the infection rates and differences. Stakeholder roles in reducing hospital-acquired infections are described. Conclusion: The presenter provides practical policies and procedures evidenced to have positive impact on hospital-acquired infection rates. An explanation is presented on the strategies health policy makers and health care providers can use to combat these infections and improve health outcomes.
