Summary/Abstract: Obesity belongs among the most serious health problems that the world today faces, and is assuming the form of a global epidemics phenomenon. In the last 30 years, the number of obese people was doubled. It is estimated that in the world, there are currently more than 1.7 billion people over the age of 20 years who are overweight, and 200 million men and 300 million women who are obese. 43 million children under the age of five are overweight. The majority of them – 35 million – live in developing countries, while 8 million live in developed countries. Malnutrition is a result of insufficient and inadequate nutrition; it may cause a negative effect on the child’s health, growth and development. It needs to be detected in time in order to be treated in a professional and appropriate manner.
