Summary/Abstract: The biological identity of the woman born conceives the social identity that is given to her in social life. In the applications and transcripts especially related to the transition periods which are an important stage in human life, the women's love and happiness can be seen and mainly the negativities are expressed. It should be specified that they are more easily expressed in contexts with people from the same gender. One of these contexts is henna nights performed at the girl's house. It can be seen in the line of tradition that the products that are performed in the context of the girl henna express what it means for the woman and which functions they fulfill in Gaziantep. In this study, it was aimed to determine the functions of oral poetry products performed during the execution of women's duties and rituals in the execution of henna in the wedding tradition which is one of the transitional periods. The functions of oral poetry products, which are read as complementary and important factors of the henna ceremony, taking into consideration the role of the woman in the society, acting in a gender-based role-sharing in society, constitute the basic issue of study. In this respect mainly henna ballads and also Turkish poem, lament, etc. species’ contextual functions have been tried to be determined through Gaziantep sampling. As a result of analyzing the identified functions of mentioned species are as follows with the main lines: entertainment, time combining, education, culture hand down, transfer of value judgments, communication, the foundation of new families with communication, allowing individual creativity in the line of tradition, belonging and security, social reconciliation, setting social relationships and roles, be an escape mechanism to escape from social and personal repression.
