Summary/Abstract: The present article represents an examination of some 4th century BC ritual practices in the necropolis of the ancient Greek colony, Apollonia Pontica in the Kalfata locality. The deposits of different types of ceramic shapes with or without traces of burning, which have been found outside the graves, are selected as subject for analysis. Goals of the study are threefold: reconstruction of the ritual actions performed at the grave site as a reflection of the social behavior to dead, interpretation of their religious, eschatological and social meaning on the base of comparative analysis of literary and epigraphic evidences, and case study on two types of funeral complexes and depositions which could contribute to the questions that have given rise to much controversy, like changing ideas on kinship organization, principles of family self-representation, conception of age groups etc. (see in Houby-Nielsen 1995).
