Summary/Abstract: The aim of the article is to determine the level of food safety of households in the United States and to present their typology basing on the level of food safety and selected demographic-economic features. For the purpose of analysis the results of secondary research carried out by the Economic Studies Section of the US Department of Agriculture in December 2009 have been used. The analysis has indicated that 15% of American households was periodically or permanently deprived of food safety and that the frequency of the occurrence of problems with satisfying basic food needs was closely linked to both the level of the households' income and to non-economic factors such as the type of a household, racial or ethnic lineage and the place of residence.
