Summary/Abstract: This paper is on the language, speech, and communication of older adults who are at times affected by illness and/or disability. European society is rapidly ageing. Thirty years ago, Europe was called “an aging Europe”, whereas today it is known as “the old man of the world.” The Polish population today is the “fastest ageing society in Europe…”. Basic demographic, medical and social issues are reflected by the health condition of the oldest generation. The last few years have seen the development of a new category, called “gerontologopaedics” or “logopaedics of the elderly”, a field at the cusp of speech therapy and gerontology. This paper presents the main aims and tasks of this nascent pedagogy of older adults who do not speak, but have their own opinions. The paper ends with the conclusion that in the future, a new field of logopaedics will need to be developed in the field of special geragogy – gerontologopaedics.
