Summary/Abstract: Despite the studies conducted over the past several decades, at the heart of the debate over perfectionism, there is still no consensus about the meaning of the word “perfectionism”, whether it is adaptive, and if so, what does this mean. The article reviews the theories and methods of measuring perfectionism. It then focuses on the determinants of development and the factors influencing the prevalence of perfectionism in children and adolescents. Numerous studies have revealed that perfectionism has serious consequences for education. It influences the school and academic achievement, students’ motivation and school engagement and is also associated with a tendency to procrastinate. This article discusses its effects on the well-being of pupils and students.
