Summary/Abstract: The theory of sustainable development is a very inviting proposition for modeling the policy of development of territorial systems (local, regional and national). However, its narrow, ecological interpretations not only undermine the potential of this concept, but also distort the essence of socio-economic development. The multidimensionality of this category – despite the objections caused by the ecological interpretation of sustainable development – assumes economic growth but necessitates it to be supplemented with the social context of improving the conditions and quality of life, which is broadly deliberated by catholic social thought.
