Summary/Abstract: When traditional ceramic shaping techniques are mentioned, shaping by hands, wheel throwing, and casting are the first things that spring to mind. The method discussed in this article can be classified as an alternative shaping technique. Having no precise name in the literature, the technique will be referred to as “shaping by dipping an object in the slip” throughout the text. Studies show that this technique is called “slip dipping” in English.“Casting slip” is a term used for liquid clay. The casting technique is basically a mass-production method for shaping by casting in a plaster mold. In the method of shaping by dipping an object in the slip, as its name implies, the ceramic form is obtained from objects that are covered with slip, dried, and then fired. Although the term “dipping” is used for this method, tools such as pistole and brush can also be used in this process. What actually matters is that the object or material is fully covered with slip. This technique requires organic materials that can burn in a ceramic kiln or objects produced from these organic materials. Materials such as papers, cotton cloths and fabrics, natural fibers and sponges can be appropriate for the aforementioned technique. The article touches upon the points to be considered in the application of the technique and the artworks produced by ceramic artists who use it as a means of expression.
