Summary/Abstract: Luster is a thin, metal-based film layer that covers the glaze surface on ceramic and has color changes due to light, and whose appearance can be described as glossy and metallic. The technique of luster is one of the most brilliant discoveries of the ceramic tradition and has continued its development with various firing and application methods from the past to today. This technique has been used for centuries as an on-glaze decorative technique (clay-paste lusters) and from the 19th century on, this technique was replaced by so-called single firing lusters in-glaze luster technique. In this study, a comprehensive research of the in-glaze luster technique was carried out. On the basis of this research, glazes with alkali and lead were developed, which can be produced under low heat. Salts or carbonates of metals such as copper, silver, bismuth and iron were added to the resulting glazes and fired in a reduced environment in order to obtain metallic lustrous luster effects.
