Summary/Abstract: This text focuses on the novel Patagonia (1972) by Slovak novelist Dušan Mitana. The aim of the text is to present the relations between memory and literature through the framework of Renate Lachmann’s and Jan Assmann’s theories. Patagonia – the place the protagonist travels to – is the place of his own memories. The paper also includes a short review of the specifics of Slovak literature of the 1960s, which can be traced through Dušan Mitana’s novel Patagonia.
