Summary/Abstract: The aim of the paper is to study how the theme of everyday life is used in contemporary Belgian novels, on the example of Le Jour du chien by Caroline Lamarche, a book which reflects a more general tendency of re-use of realism. The analysis shows that it can take the form of news items introduced into literary work. First, banality leads to singularity in perception of an ordinary event, then, it assures the complexity of writing, visible in having recourse to the multivocal narrative structure, autotelic elements, or intertextuality, and, finally, it reflects its universal, though still ambiguous, nature.
