Summary/Abstract: This article analyses the transgression of everyday life by the heroines of two novels by Mauritanian French-speaking novelist Ananda Devi titled Pagli and Indian Tango. The daily life of two Hindus female protagonists – i.e. Pagli, a young married woman from Mauritius, and Subhadra, a mature woman living in India – is conditioned by the strength of tradition and religion they profess and which gives women a secondary role and makes them obedient and servile toward men. Both heroines express their opposition to the male dictate in various manners. Their rebellion finds its reflection in the sabotage of everyday domestic duties. The heroines of Ananda Devi’s novels are extremely powerful women who, through transgression, discover freedom andfind their true identity.
