Summary/Abstract: In the Slavic traditional culture, fire is considered one of the four elements, a gift from God, surrounded by a number of obligations and bans which regulate the rules for handling it. A lot of cultural aspects of fire become actualised in folk prose, including fairy tales and legends, and the mediatory and transformational values pertaining to the element of fire have been best documented in them. Furthermore, fire is associated with the idea of eternal regeneration of life and with the moral and ethical dimensions of human behavior.
