Summary/Abstract: At the centre of this study stand the artists involved in the creation of works of art on the basis of memory as the essence of their work. Memory, in this context, refers to recall and storage. The study focuses on the works of art of artists such as İlya & Emilia Kabakov, Doris Salcedo, Christian Boltanski, Sarkis, Michael Blum and Nikhil Chopra. Works of art distinctive in relation to individual and social memory are classified under the context of cultural memory in terms of recalling what is non-daily. It is observed that the works handle, within the context of individual memory, the account of one’s experiences and past-life, and address historical events and sociological subjects as far as social memory is concerned. The works of art examined also allowed drawing implications in the context of the relation of memory with the space and time.
