Participatory budgeting of Lesser Poland Voivodeship

Summary/Abstract: A participatory budgeting is a form of direct democracy, which in Poland has been gaining more and more popularity and is used in many local government units. The purpose of this article is, on one hand, to present the issue of a classic participatory budgeting, on the other hand to analyse the functioning of this form of direct democracy in Poland (especially the participatory budgeting of Lesser Poland province) and to indicate the reasons for which this tool might be rather regarded as a kind of consultation than participatory budgeting.
