Summary/Abstract: In this paper, the relationship between economic growth and urbanization in Turkey were examined via annual data of 1961-2015 period. The existence and direction of long run relationship has been investigated by ARDL models. As a result, it has been determined that urbanization is co-integrated with economic growth in the long term, and that both short and long term coefficients are positive. The increment of urbanization rate in Turkey, increases the economic growth rate in both periods. Urbanization rate, however, is not affected by the changes in economic growth. According to these results, increase in economic growth does not encourage people to migrate from rural to urban area. Nevertheless, as people become urbanized, economic growth increases due to increasing commercial relationships. Consequently, politicians do not need to precaution for increasing urbanization rates when they expect economic growth to increase. However, if increase of the economic growth rate is desired, urbanization should be encouraged.
