Summary/Abstract: Many attempts have been made to transliterate Russian names and texts by Latin letters. However, a good system has been found around the year 1400 by the linguistic expert Jan Hus. With the aid of his system, the 26 characters of the Latin alphabet plus a number of diacritical signs can transliterate more than 40 phonemes of all Slavic languages (not only of Russian). It has been adopted by the rules of ISO and of DIN (in Germany), it is also suitable for teletyping and computer work.
