Summary/Abstract: On a basis of reports in the papers Slovenec, Slovenski narod, Novice, Domovina, Zgodnja Danica and Sudsteirische Post, the author presents the responses to the aggravated discussion on financing parallel classes in the Celje gymnasium. This issue brought about the downfall of the Windischgraetz government and represented the turning point in Austrian domestic policy. The responses in newspapers varied according to their political orientation, but they all defended Slovenian demands and warned against ever increasing nationalistic German tendencies.
