Summary/Abstract: This paper presents a study of the perception of the importance of English for Specific Purposes (ESP) when learning English language. Examinees are students of Maritime University in Rijeka, course: Logistics and Management in Maritime Industry and Transport and the research concentrated on their evaluation of the importance of English language for their future career. The study was conducted on seventy-two students of the second year of the of Logistics and Management in Maritime Industry and Transport. It is assumed that the students will use the English language in writing and speaking daily in practice, so the purpose of the research was to analyse the attitudes towards English during their studies and to perceive the future use of ESP language in the labour market. The data were collected through a structured questionnaire and included answers to questions about the perception of the importance of English language learning, attitudes towards ESP and the role of language learning, aim and purpose of language learning, motivation for learning English and the level of knowledge of ESP. By analysing the answers, it can be concluded that the students are aware of the importance of learning English, especially ESP, for further progress in the business world within the chosen field of work.
