Summary/Abstract: Languages act as a mechanism of the relations of the internal elements that build them up, and express their existence, concepts, or movements. In other words, phonetics, morphology, lexicology, and syntax move in a coordinated manner with the various associations in order to provide meaning. One of the structures that emerged as a result of the collaboration of grammatical categories is the serial verb structure (SVC). Serial verb structures refer to actual structures in which more than one verb come together or a single verb, thus implying a single event with a single view, including multiple movements marking a single event with a holistic look. Moreover, is important to mark a single event with a syntactic combination of at least two verbs. Studies made in the 19th century frequently claimed the serial verb structures existed in specific African languages, however studies on many other languages/language families were done as well. With this in mind, a number of studies in Turkish about serial verb structures have been put forth. This study both synchronically and diachronically examines the structure of SVCs in Turkish based the opinions from aforementioned studies, as well as aims to determine their characteristics.
