Summary/Abstract: The article studies zoonyms, one of the lexico-semantic word-groups in the Azerbaijani language that is distinguished by its originality. It examines naming zoonyms according to age and gender identity. Zoonymic units are distinguished from other lexical-semantic word groups for their rich semantic structure and complex character. One of the distinguishing features of these words is their naming according to age, gender and some other characteristics. If we look at the naming the animals in our language according to age and gender difference, we see that names of domestic animals used at the agriculture are more frequently appear to be in such paradigmatic relationship. The reason for this is that such animals have important position in the lives of people and are inseparable part of their lifestyle. In this report we study examples of naming animals based oh their age and gender in Azerbaijani literary language, dialects and Turkish written monuments. Zoonymic units by every nation for its anthropocentric metaphorication forms the information regarding humanic and mental qualities, appearance, in short, the characteristics that are important for that nation. Some of zoonyms used in this metaphorication are those related to age and gender. Number of words containing information on age and their metaphorication is higher than those related to gender. It should also be mentioned that these terms that carry age and gender qualities enter into a counter-semantic relationship to serve as a semantic nucleus of phraseologism and proverbs.
