Summary/Abstract: This article aims to reveal the close relationship between the Redeemer/Messiah concept and the Lost Paradise idea in movies based on the film Elysium. The movie depicts the post-apocalyptic world scenery covering chaotic dynamics, capitalist exploitation, and class differences. Chaos-dominated situations are necessary for the repetition of cosmogony and provide an optimal ground for a redeemer to reverse the bad course. The Redeemer/Messiah and the Lost Paradise archetypes are common beliefs from the ancient times to the present. They originate from myths which are not only an important part of human actions in archaic societies but also infiltrate into the relative secular world of modern society. In the film Elysium, traditional redeemer motifs such as the hero to appear, fight, suffer and sacrifice himself to save the people are repeated. The analyses in this study are mainly based on the monomite concept expressed in Joseph Campbell’s book named “The Hero With A Thousand Faces”. This article also refers the conceptions about the Golden Age and the Millenarianism in addition to the thematic meaning in the film.
