Summary/Abstract: In this paper we shall try to present the direct Italian and Venetian loan-words in the Zadar Arbanasi speech through semantic fields (with particular emphasis on gastronomy, marriage and family life) and lexis distribution. Through all periods from the time Arbanasi settled in Zadar to the end of World War II, Italian, as the language of culture and administration, and Zaratinski, as a spoken language, were prestigious idioms, apart from Croatian. In lexis distribution analysis, borrowed after settling, shall focus only on the direct Italo-Roman (Venetian and Italian) loan-words, and not on indirect loan-words from Croatian (Chakavian and Stokavian dialects), including Croatian romanisms, and romanisms which could be direct loan-words, or those taken over with the Croatian mediation.
