Summary/Abstract: The research objective is to investigate and understand how the thoughts and related feelings of attaining aims may cause significant loss. The issue is crucial for the management of decisions that people project for future and invest a certain amount of effort, time, and their resources. Considering the causes for escalation of commitment of Drummond (2014)’s research and other researches mentioned below, with convenience sampling 137 Y generation from various state universities in Istanbul was given a medicine sector case study that was written by the researchers and survey method was used for asking about their reasons to escalate for erroneous decisions. According to the regression results, emotional intelligence has a statistically significant and positive effect on escalation of commitment, agreeableness has a statistically significant and negative effect, conscientiousness has a statistically significant and positive effect on escalation of commitment and task initiation and/or persistence has a statistically significant and positive effect on escalation of commitment. Examining the moderating effects of gender with hierarchical regression analysis, for males as task initiation and/or persistence self-efficacy increases, escalation for commitment accelerates and for females, as emotional intelligence increases escalation of commitment increases more than males. The respondents’ emphasis on psychological and social determinants presents that considering these factors will affect their decisions to be better. The research can be carried out in various sectors they’re employed which will be representative and useful to a certain extent in those sectors.
