Progress in the Context of the Sociological Meaning of Time A Contribution to the Sociology of Time

Summary/Abstract: The paper regards the problem o f temporal determination o f an individual's social being and that o f his community. Sociological view o f time takes into account two important issues: 1) creation o f the world’ 2) providing sense and meaning to the world. These two issues make important parts o f the present, past and future and, finally, o f their sublimation. This leads towards a notion o f time as a sociological category from the ontic and the ontological point o f view - here is the theoretical basis for typological identification, understanding, interpreting and explaining o f the importance and meaning o f time. The individual and the community assert their identity and direct their actions through the importance and meaning that they give to time. I f this is a direction towards realization o f fundamental human values, it is o f a progressive nature.
