Historical Names in Paintings Representation

Summary/Abstract: Historical events have been a source of inspiration for both foreign and Romanian painters. The portraits of important historical personalities are brought back into the people’s conscience and the events are represented differently in the work of art according to the artist’s involvement. The present study aims at analysing from a semnatical, lexical and grammatical point of view certain names from historically-themed paintings. Our research is included in the field of onomastics and uses an interdisciplinary approach. The corpus is taken from museum websites or from art albums and books.
