Summary/Abstract: If, in Ionesco’s well-known definition, the Avant-garde can be defined in “terms of opposition and rupture”, it follows that the main goal of any Avant-garde project would be the Revolution. This approach tries to emphasize the main connections and, respectively, tribulations of the relationship between Avant-garde and the idea of revolution, not only under the form of radical aesthetic innovation, but also under the political aspect. It reveals the fact that all Avant-garde movements, including the Romanian Avant-garde of the thirties, shared the main idea of social emancipation as a necessary condition for human liberation.
