Summary/Abstract: The results obtained through population censuses undertaken in the Austrian districts of the Habsburg monarchy in the years 1869, 1880, 1890, 1900 and 1910 are used within an analysis of changes in the economic (professional) structure of the population employed in the sectors of industry and handicrafts. Data have been computed for the Slovene ethnic territory as a whole, and comparisons have been made between the progress of individual Slovene provinces on one hand, and within separate branches of industry and trade, on the other.
