Summary/Abstract: The acquisition of the Albanian language by foreign students, specifically Italian students studying at the Catholic University "Our Lady of the Good Council" in Albania,is an important process and a noticeable experience in the teaching of Albanian as a foreign language, worth highlighting. In the teaching process, out of all Italian students, there has been a number of foreign students of Arbëresh (ancient Albanian) descent. In the frame of the development of the interest of communication with Albania and Albanians, wherever Albanians, Arbëresh Albanians, and also foreigners, interested in working or living in Albania, live, the Albanian language is in an ever renewal process. In view of this phenomenon, this paper aims at presenting the interest of foreign students in the Albanian language, which should be mentioned, has ever increased, despite the perceptive individual capacities of each of them. Teaching of Albanian at "Our Lady of the Good Council" is compulsory. This course is based on the introduction and usage of the basic grammar issues of the Albanian language, beginning from the simplest to the most complex ones, from the common tothe exceptional ones. The program offers teaching in all fields of the Albanian language; it provides students with knowledge on grammar, style, lexicology, spelling, phonetics, and text analysis. Such all-level structured work of Albanian helps the lecturer as a knower of both the students’ psychology, and the Albanian language, to frequently createnot only culturalbut also ethnographic biased situations and topics in Albanian, aiming at implementing the principle that language is a spirit expressed through signsor clad in signs. The Italian student is offered the Albanian language as a way of communication in the field practice they carry out in the hospital centers of Albania, as they study for medicine, nursing, physiotherapy, dentistry and so on.Students encounter Albanian for specific purposesthat is, Albanian for medicine, a practical course where Albanian grammar is not underestimated. The aim is the accurate acquisition of grammatical rules of Albanian as well as their practical application in writing and speaking, always bearing in mind the principle that language is a means of communication. This goal is always in tune with their status in Albania as Albanian language speakers and not Albanians. This paper intends to show how this goal can be achieved, the obstacles encountered in this process, and the beauty offered by the development of Albanian in the new social cultural reality.
