Research on the dialects of Albanian colony and diaspora in Bulgaria

Summary/Abstract: Albanian colony in Bulgaria (Sofia) and Albanian diaspore (Mandrica) had attracted the researches’ attention ever since early XX century, especially with the characteristics of their language. The scientists, mainly Bulgarians and Albanians, have made a linguistic description of the dialects of the Albanian colony in Bulgaria, analyzing the newspapers and other works from Albanian authors. The dialect of Mandrica wasstudied in very broad way. In their surveys, the scholars have used various methodologies and approaches in order to come to the important conclusions about the characteristics of these dialects. The comprehensive research of Mandrica is with high importance, because there is a danger for near extinction of that Albanian dialect because of demographic and social reasons. Nevertheless, this dialect is preserved very goodthanks to the work of the researches in last decades. Their contribution is still ongoing. Subject of this paper are the scientist’s achievements, their conclusions and summary of their methods.
