Summary/Abstract: "A Critic is a failed writer who has fallen to the foot of the holy mountain", according to the poet, playwright and French critic Theophile Gautier (1811-1872). But we would like to "trust" the man who have made both, true literature and criticisms: Faik Konica, according to whom "criticism is also a literary work itself", and then Arshi Pipa, according to whom "In art and letters, in science and philosophy and even religion, the criticism is the foundation of every safe building ... ".For nearly a century, there is a debate on the issue of the existence and importance of literary criticism in Albania. It is a debate that still alive today, but which had the culmination in the 30’s and 40’s of the last century, and as we revisit it today, it amazes us for the vibrancy, the clash, the diversity of thought. It was a debate involving almost all the literary, daily newsletters and journals. As Ibrahim Rugova would say, "literary criticism appear as discipline with the activation of the press” . After the publication of each work, the reaction was instantaneous. On the pages of "Minerva", "Iliria", "Përpjekja Shqiptare", "Hylli i Dritës", "LEKA", "Kritika", "Revista letrare", "Rilindja" etc., were analyzed the works of Fishta, Koliqi, Spasse, Stërmilli, Pipa, Shuteriqi, Kokona, but also the authors of the tradition. etc.. The authors were not overwhelmed with short responses, but they analyzed the work, and even the personality of poets and writers. And, in this lightened atmosphere, it would be marked a climax in the field of criticism thoughts. But i would like to stand particularly in the debate over literary criticism. Discussing about the literary product in general and criticism as an institution, in particular, the participants themselves in this debate were developing the critical discourse, which unfortunately took another course during the years of communism dictatorship. The literary press of the 1930-40’s offers a rich subject from the debate that was developed by the most famous writers and critics of the time, such as Vedat Kokona, Arshi Pipa, Nexhat Hakiu, Dhimitër Shuteriqi, Petro Marko and many others.
