Summary/Abstract: Sport tourism is one of the fastest growing forms of tourism. The impact of sport-related mega events is also justified from a social, environmental and economic perspective. The subject is often in a crossfire of the opinions of tourism researchers, sports economists, sociologists and political scientists. While the positive effects of sporting mega events are often covered by the literature, only a few studies deal with its negative effects. The need for a comprehensive and integrated approachand sustainable development is becoming increasingly clear. In this article, the authors try to present the effects of an organizing countrythrough two examples of Hungary’s most important international sport events, the Hungarian Formula One Grand Prix with a history of 33 years and the 2017 FINA Water World Championship.
