Summary/Abstract: Irritable Bowel Syndrome is a gastrointestinal disorder characterized by abdominal pain and which is accompanied by altered bowel habits. Just like with other functional medical disorders, there is no current identifiable physical, neurological or metabolic cause for IBS. IBS has a very increased prevalence rate all over the world, with an approximately 6 to 15% incidence in Canada and USA. In addition, besides the specific gastro-intestinal manifestations described in the Rome IV criteria, lately there is also an increased interest in the psychological and psychiatric comorbidities from the complex and multifactorial Irritable Bowel Syndrome pathophysiology. Thus, in the present mini-report we will focus our attention on the anxiety and depression-related manifestations of the Irritable Bowel Syndrome in both humans and animal models studies.
