Summary/Abstract: This paper is a short chapter of a work of research which aims at analysing Sándor Weöres’s concept of language and subjectivity. In this part of the study I propose to compare his conception of art and language with that of Dezső Kosztolányi, based on the interpretations of Esti Kornél éneke and on his essays. I focus upon the relationship between the signifier and the signified, as well as upon the nature of subjectivity in their poetry and theory. The purpose of my research is to identify the predecessors of his philosophy and to try and explain the difference between the impersonality of Weöres’s poetry and that of late modernism.
