Summary/Abstract: In Poland the prevention of infectious diseases through the use of protective vaccinations isregulated by law. Protective vaccinations are divided into obligatory and recommended ones.Physicians and dentists are also legally obliged to apply vaccinations.In addition to laws and ordinances on protective vaccination, there are also related resolutionsand appeals of the medical self-government. Provisions of the Code of Medical Ethics state:1. the vocation of a physician requires, among other things, disease prevention; 2. doctors areobliged to act in accordance with the current state of medical knowledge; 3. physicians are notallowed to promote an attitude that may impair the health of patients.A s far as vaccinating medical staff and personnel, including physicians is concerned, onlythe preventive vaccination against hepatitis type B is obligatory, which experts in the field considerinsufficient. In the present legal state, undergoing these recommended vaccinations is theindividual decision of each physician, but in view of the obligations of the medical communityquoted in the article it is understood that a more health-oriented behaviour is expected.
