Summary/Abstract: The article looks back at the long history of Poland’s role in international development cooperation from the moment it regained independence to the present time. Unlike most other publications which focus on contemporary Polish development assistance, it sheds more light on Poland’s support for developing countries during the Cold War and its role as a beneficiary of foreign aid during the post-1989 political and economic transformation. By taking the long-term perspective, the article shows Poland as a re-emerging rather than a new contributor to development assistance.
