LITERARY CRITICISM AS A DISCIPLINE OF THE SCIENCE OF LITERTURE (DUŠAN ĐUROVIĆ AND LITERARY CRITICISM)

Summary/Abstract: In the introductory part of the paper, the author discusses the complex relation between literature, criticism and culture, with a special emphasis on literary criticism as a specific discipline of science about literature, its theoretical development and connections with related disciplines that, ultimately, ensure the raising of the level of science and the exactness of its analysis. In this part of the paper, the author tries to answer the question whether literary criticism belongs to the sphere of science or art. In the central part of the paper, the author offers a critical presentations of the stories and novels of Dusan Djurovic from the first to those written recently, as well as the views of D. Djurovic of literary phenomena and works, as well as of the literary criticism expressed through critical analyses which were written in the period of several decades in a row. The author points to the fact that the attitude of the literary critics, regarding the the work of Dušan Đurović, has been ranged from a rough negation with the aim of political or artificial disqualification to the affirmation of the work and the writer. The article presents in detail the critical methods used in the analysis of the literary opus of Dušan Đurović, stressing that criticism does not only provide a picture of the work to which he is dedicated, but also offers an image about itself, since it shows, realistically, its evaluation criteria and possibilities for analysis, the components that belong to autocriticism and metacriticism.
