Summary/Abstract: References to Prophetic slips or minor errors in sources of theology, have been handled within the topic of purity which express the Prophets quality as being sinless or immune from sin. Some verses and narratives from the Qur’an have prompted impressions that Prophets have sinned and these impressions have led to discussions of whether Prophets are protected from sin or not. This situation has also brought forward issues of how such dogmas should be understood. Terms such as slip up-‘zalla’, minor sin-‘saghirah’ or stumble-‘atharat’ have been used to describe minor mistakes or acts of the Prophets. The Hanafî-Mâturîdî scholars have mostly preferred the use of the term slip up-‘zalla’, while the Mu’tazilite and Ash’ari schools have preferred the use of the term minor sin-‘saghirah’. All these terms express the possibility of Prophets committing minor sins without intent.
